My faves!

2014  has already come and gone and I have yet to share with you my favorite reads of the year. For those who don’t follow me on social media, the answer as to why is simple: I was dying of the plague. Okay, not really. I REALLY had the flu. And not just one. I had TWO different strands. So for my Christmas vacation, I spent 16 days in bed. Sleeping. Barely moving. Barely reading—which is the real tragedy. But now that we have enjoyed a full two weeks of 2015, let me share with you my favorite reads of 2014. First, I met my Goodreads goal of 115 books. As a matter of fact, I didn’t meet it—I spanked it. By year’s end I read 144 books (mostly YA and mysteries). I really like rounded up numbers, so I am bummed I didn’t reach 145, but hey, since I spanked my original goal, I will take it. This is my first time participating, but I want to make sure I'm using my blog to share my love of reading - not just reviews. So...here goes my first "Waiting on Wednesday" post, and I picked one of my favorite authors

I heart Lindsey Leavitt. I first fell in love with her because of her Princess for Hire series, which I read because she was appearing at my local B&N with Rachel Hawkins. I wanted to make sure I read Leavitt's book before meeting her, and I have been a fan ever since.

Review: A Snicker of Magic

First, let me say that if a cover has a large ice cream cone on it, dibs are I am going to pick it up. Period. I am a cover shopper, and nothing says, “Pick me up Hodgenator” like a giant ice cream cone. Also, the title has the word “magic” in it. I am going to touch it. In this case, I saw it on Netgalley and realized I needed this book in my life. Little did I know that while reading it, I did need this book in my life . Happenings in Hodgensville: Talking Boy Readers

Happenings in Hodgensville is me sharing myself with you, not reviewing a book or discussing what I am reading, but sharing what I am doing in my classroom and/or in my life. During Armchair BEA I participated in the non-fiction post. I received an email letting me know I had comments. While reading them, I encountered a mother who has an upcoming fifth grader who is 11—or almost 11. She was looking for suggestions on what to give her son to read because he is struggling, and so is she as a parent. I replied with a list of some of the series titles that are meant to appeal to reluctant male readers as well as a list of links that list out other titles as well.
