2014 has already come and gone and I have yet to share with you my favorite reads of the year. For those who don’t follow me on social media, the answer as to why is simple: I was dying of the plague. Okay, not really. I REALLY had the flu. And not just one. I had TWO different strands. So for my Christmas vacation, I spent 16 days in bed. Sleeping. Barely moving. Barely reading—which is the real tragedy. But now that we have enjoyed a full two weeks of 2015, let me share with you my favorite reads of 2014. First, I met my Goodreads goal of 115 books. As a matter of fact, I didn’t meet it—I spanked it. By year’s end I read 144 books (mostly YA and mysteries). I really like rounded up numbers, so I am bummed I didn’t reach 145, but hey, since I spanked my original goal, I will take it. My Thoughts:
This book gives me a lot of feels. I mean, how can two people keep their love going when time is their enemy?
In this sequel, Stone delivers a solid story. It was reminiscent of Gayle Foreman’s ‘Where She Went’ in the feel, pace, and development.
Experiencing life and travel and love from Bennett’s point of view was a win for me because I enjoyed reading the world from his eyes. It seems as if it is up to Bennett to keep the love alive because he is the one who can travel, but what happens when his abilities become spotty and his misses some of Anna’s most cherished moments? Can he keep this going—or is it time for him to set her free for a bright future with another?
On the page, Anna and Bennett are electric, and they are one of my favorite YA couples. Stone writes their story with so much care. I mean, how can an author create a love story with characters from two different times? This is what draws me to the story—and what keeps me turning the page. I am completely invested in the story, and in Anna and Bennett. Is it wrong that I want to give them a “celebrity” nickname like Bennanna?
But seriously, Stone gives a strong development to Bennett. Readers experience his interactions with his parents, his sister, and his grandmother. These relationships remind readers that he is more than just the other half of Anna.
But, Anna is the one who has his heart.
Readers will experience a Bennett who is torn, not only about Anna but also about keeping the truth from his parents about his travels—and the truth from his grandmother about his true identity.
This story steps beyond just a love between Anna and Bennett. It steps into the realm of familial love, and loyalty, and doing what is right for all involved.
Anna and Bennett will steal your heart—and your time because you will not want to put this down.
